有機地球化學是唯一一個專門發表對有機化合物起主要作用的所有地球化學階段的同行評審研究的媒介。編輯們歡迎以有機化學（包括分子和同位素地球化學）為基礎，涉及地質學、生物地球化學、環境地球化學、化學海洋學和水文學的廣泛的地球科學領域的貢獻。該雜志的研究范圍包括石油（包括天然氣）、煤、水環境中的有機物和最近的沉積物、富含有機物的巖石和土壤以及有機物在元素地球化學循環中的作用。

Organic Geochemistry serves as the only dedicated medium for the publication of peer-reviewed research on all phases of geochemistry in which organic compounds play a major role. The Editors welcome contributions covering a wide spectrum of subjects in the geosciences broadly based on organic chemistry (including molecular and isotopic geochemistry), and involving geology, biogeochemistry, environmental geochemistry, chemical oceanography and hydrology.The scope of the journal includes research involving petroleum (including natural gas), coal, organic matter in the aqueous environment and recent sediments, organic-rich rocks and soils and the role of organics in the geochemical cycling of the elements.
